Coconut oil is basically a miracle. It can be used for seemingly everything: cooking, moisturizer, toothpaste…the list goes on and on. I swear by coconut oil and here are my favorite ways to use it:

Butter Substitute

  • Being a vegan, I use coconut oil in tons of my recipes. It’s a healthier alternative to butter that works in several recipes, and only leaves a slight coconut-y taste.

Moisturizer

  • Coconut oil is an awesome all-natural moisturizer! It’s an ingredient in several store-bought products, but you can buy pure coconut oil that works great. It can fix stubborn dry skin overnight; even elbows! It’s also a great lip balm to apply right before bed.

Makeup Remover

  • You’ll no longer need makeup wipes or liquid makeup remover once you start using coconut oil. Simply apply coconut oil directly to your eyes/face or put it on a cotton ball. Either way, it takes your makeup off immediately. And you don’t have to worry about a weird chemical-based residue on your skin because coconut is natural and moisturizing.

Toothpaste

  • I know, it sounds weird, but it works! Mix one part coconut to an equivalent amount of baking soda to create a natural toothpaste alternative. You may have heard that many toothpastes have aluminum byproducts and other unhealthy ingredients so this is a great, safer option. You can also add mint extracts if you want a flavor.

Conditioner

  • Coconut oil is a great natural conditioner for your hair! Massage it into your scalp, put your hair in a shower cap, wait a few hours (or overnight), rinse your hair and be delighted at its soft texture and shininess.

Shaving Cream

  • Due to its moisturizing tendencies, coconut oil is a great shaving cream. It won’t lather up because it’s not made with chemicals, but it’ll get the job done!

These are just some of the many uses of coconut oil. Try these techniques and I guarantee you’ll be pleasantly surprised. And don’t be afraid to experiment with other ways to use it!
