Everything We Think We Know About Addiction Is Wrong.

I just watched the most mind-blowing video on addiction created by In A Nut Shell.

If someone were to ask you, “what causes drug addiction?” I’m sure you’d feel pretty confident in answering, because it’s an easy question right? Drugs cause drug addiction, duh.

Well, it’s actually not that simple.

As it turns out, addiction isn’t caused by chemicals, it’s caused by your surroundings.

It’s a part of human nature to┬ábond and connect. Healthy humans bond with each other.

but if you’re traumatized, isolated or beaten down by life, you will bond with something┬áthat will give you some sort of relief.

We cast drug addicts out of society, making it harder for them to become stable. We take these already sick people, and put them in an even worse situation then get mad at them for not recovering…

Makes sense, right?

The video doesn’t just focus on drug addiction.

It calls out our society as a whole, saying that we have become more and more isolated over the years. Our average number of friends has been declining, while our average size of floor space has been increasing. We choose stuff over connection.

In order to reverse this lonely world we’ve created for ourselves, we have to change the unnatural way we live and learn how to make connections with other people again.

“The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, the opposite of addiction is connection.”

I highly recommend checking out this video, it gave me a whole new perspective on addiction, and our society as a whole.
